An Update on the Direction of This Blog

So, I’ve decided to take on the Baltimore Music Scene project. It’s the one with the most potential for multimedia, but as discussed in class, it also has the most potential to be a bunch of different profile pieces. That’s what I’ll be working against. I thought the museum idea was pretty good, but music should offer me a lot of things. What’s better? It should be fun.

My first thought was, obviously, what can I do to make this fairly broad topic local and interesting?

A lot of things make up the full picture of any music scene: musicians, fans, venues and recording. Each of these can be found in Baltimore, so I thought that I’d approach some representatives (native to Baltimore) of the aforementioned categories, and talk to them. Find out what they like and dislike about their city. Ask them if they think Baltimore has influenced them in any way. Those would be good questions to ask the musicians and fans at least.

Actually, I initiated contact with the band Beretta Jane, who said they’d be happy to answer some questions. I’m still waiting on an answer from them.

The venues I think I’ll be taking a look at might be some of the smaller, hole-in-the-wall places. I’ll be attempting to contact the Black Hole Rock Club, the Talking Head Club, the 8×10 and others as I become more familiar with the likes of Baltimore city.

What I’ve got planned for the concert-goers is to approach them at performances at such and such club.

I haven’t researched much on the recording studios yet or figured out what angle it is that I’ll be working for them. But as soon as I do, I’ll be posting here and at my Twitter.
