Animal Collective Makes the 2009 Bonnaroo Line-up

February 8, 2009 at 11:56 pm (Research)

Tuesday night, Bonnaroo announced its 2009 line-up. Baltimore-native Animal Collective will be trekking down to Manchester, Tenn. to be a part of the peaceful madness that takes place each year in June.

I’ve heard a lot about this group on Towson University’s radio station, WTMD, and NPR’s World Café, and I have to say, I’m impressed.

Animal Collective has been making music since 2000 and in January they released their ninth album: “Merriweather Post Pavilion.”

For the moment, they’re on a hiatus from playing shows – likely to prepare for the European tour they’re doing through out March with Pantha du Prince, followed by a U.S. tour in May and June leading up to their date at the Bonnaroo festival.

The psychedelic and layered sounds of Animal Collective will fit nicely into the world that Bonnaroo creates. Everyone fazed by the constant-contact high that is induced is sure to be pleased with what Animal Collective has to offer.

Their video for “My Girls” sets the bar for an interesting performance, although hopefully not at the standards of Kanye West’s set last year. On an interesting note, West published a link to said video in his own blog recently.

The group, whose Noah Lennox (a.k.a. Panda Bear) comes from Baltimore, must be patting itself on the back. Animal Collective has been the topic of many news stories (or reviews) from California to Taiwan (albiet taken from the Philadelphia Inquirer), calling them the “Obama of Pop” to “Between Pop and Pretention”, all since the Bonnaroo’s announcement (search Google News, I promise).
